Jealousy

The idea of the green monster of jealousy comes from Shakespeare when he relates the green eyes of a cat, as they play with their mice before they eat them, in relation with the second part of the definition given above.

Jealousy isn't always bad. Jealousy is when you want to keep something nice and good, just for you. Jealousy, in the way of partiotism, is what keeps our country a strong nation. If no one cared, imagine where we'd be at right now. We had it when webuilt this country, and it still exists in full.

In war, things became so monotonous, that you would become jealous of other peoples girl friends, wives, or fiances. In the book Tamar, Dart became so jealous of Tamars girl, that it reduced him to murder and lies, and ultimately he lost everything he was trying to achieve

Something almost everyone is jealous of, including me, is fame. We see those famous people who look like they have it all, and we want to be them. I often wonder if it's as great as it sounds.

Many girls nowadays see images all over the media outlets saying that we need to be "beautiful" by their standards. Many of us become jealous of the models, like the ones imaged in Victoria's Secret comercials. Something all of us need to learn, is that we are beautiful in ourselves, and we don't need to look like the scantely dressed models on the comercials.

Time to Blame

Even though people want to blame WWII all on the Germans, "You one person to start a fight, but two to make it last" ~Unknown. This very familiar phrase definitely applies to WWII, considering that is lasted for a very long time. If Germans were the only ones to blame, this would have been a German/Jew war, however it is titled a World War, because it involved the whole world. Based on what I have read in my novel, there are five main reasons why WWII lasted as long as it did.







1. Although it wasn't all Nazi's that made this war last, they are definitely to blame in quite a large ammount. The Nazi's and Hitler were the starters to this war, and they never stopped adding fuel to the fire as long as possible.



2. The second most ammount of blame should be put on new technology. Even though it has been helpful, and I don't deny progress is good, the war would have been much shorter, or at least less deadly if all the new weapons, subs, planes, bombs, and guns hadn't been invented. Even though this progress has been mostly benificial, it definitely added to the length and extremity of the war.

3. Their goal was to end the war, but with limited power and supplies, they only made it last longer, but helped make sure the right side won. Yes, it's the resistance. There were underground risistances everywhere, in Germany, England, France and Holland. Although these resistances were fighting for the same cause, they rarely got along, and did more fighting amongst themselves, then working against a common enemy. If these groups had worked harder to get along, the war may have ended sooner.


4. In war, everyone is to blame. The English were a big part, and an important member of the "Allies" who were one of the biggest forces in the whole war. Two opposing forces of the same caliber repel. It's a simple physics principle that applies in all areas of life, and that includes war.





5. Last, but not least, the Jews also were attributes to this war, however the blame is much less on them, than many other things. Even though they were the reason for the conflict in the beginning, it wasn't really their fault. Their blame is small, because even though they are the reason for the war, it was not beacuse of their actions, as much as it was because of their very existance. An unvalid reason for anyone in their right mind, but then again, no one ever said Hitler was. ;)

The Telegraph

The telegraph is a now outdated form of communication using electric waves, much like a radio, so send a series of sound dots and dashes to communicate a message from one party to another.
It was invented by Claude Chappe, a Frenchman, in 1794. Originally, it was all visual using flags with the dots and dashes to get their point across, and was later on an electrical tool for many.

Even though the telegraph was an easy way to send messages to and from friends and family, it was most used during war, as a way of communicating messages from one post to another during battle, or secret operations. It was one of the most crucial tools in warfare, considering, you can have all the weapons you want, but it doesn't make a difference if you don't know where to point them.

The book Tamar by Mal Peet offers both WWII "present day" scenes, and flash forwards. In the beginning, one of the main characters, Dart, uses the telegraph a lot to send secret coded messages, and although it is obvious that it plays a big part in his secret mission, in the flash forward, it tells about his secret mission in the past (actually present) being compromised. I personally think that the telegraph has a large part to play. Since all of Dart's telegraph devices aren't hidden very well, it would be easy to find and infiltrate them. I guess we'll see what happens.

War and Hate Relate

What is hate? For most people, hate is expressed as extreme dislike for someone or something, like "I hate Brussels sprouts," or "I hate Mary-Kate and Ashley," but what they fail to realize is that hate cannot be expressed when those things have not been experienced. For me, hate cannot be expressed until you have directly experienced it, full-on and in-person. I feel quite incredulous towards one who would say they hate Mary-Kate and Ashley, when i know they haven't met them. Judgement and hate are two different feelings that, although they may seem related, are separated by an abyss of dissimilarities. So what is hate? To me, it is dis contempt towards something you have personally experienced, and have strong feelings against to the point of intolerance.

Hate has been transformed from thoughts and feelings to actions, the worst of which is undoubtedly discrimination. Never has the world known a worse hate than the discrimination towards the Jewish people by the Germans in WWII. Their hate was harsh and unreasonable. No one can really pinpoint EXACTLY what they were against. "The Nazis victimized some people for what they did, some for what they refused to do, some for what they were, and some for the fact that they were." - John Conway, a holocaust survivor stated.
Jewish babies were used as target practice for their army, and many adults were the "guinea pigs" for cruel procedure tests that German doctors used. These shocking and horrifying practices went on for a very long time, because other countries, such as the US decided to over look it, thinking that it wouldn't last forever, and that keeping to ourselves would improve us and our economy. If only we'd listened to a very wise man, Winston Churchill when he said, "It is a mistake to look too far ahead. Only one link in the chain of destiny can be handled at a time."
Today there is a lot of discrimination and hate towards Mexicans. The fact of the matter is that most people will blame their problems and the worlds problems on anyone that is and easy target (usually of another ethnicitys.) Currently, because of our growing problem with illegal immigrants, Mexicans are an easy target for the down fall and decline of society. Whether or not this is right, it is unavoidable and there will always be discrimination and hate on earth.
